He was best known for characters including Scooter, Beaker, Janice, Statler, and Sweetums from 1981–1984. Kevin's performance inspired the writers to develop Elmo's character.[2] John Tartaglia John Nicholas Tartaglia is an American singer, actor, dancer, and puppeteer, Matt Vogel, and Jim Martin have all been secondary performers for the character, providing movement for Elmo's arms and legs, particularly in green-screen shots.

Kevin Clash and Aaron Neville Aaron Neville is an American soul and R&B singer and musician. Neville did not chart again, however, until 1989, when he collaborated with Linda Ronstadt on three consecutive duets: "Don't Know Much", " were also guests on this show. Elmo also appeared in a fifth season episode of The West Wing The West Wing is an American television serial drama created by Aaron Sorkin that was originally broadcast from September 22, 1999 to May 14, 2006. The series is set in the West Wing of the White House, the location of the Oval Office and offices of presidential senior staff, during the fictional Democratic administration of Josiah Bartlet along with his friends Zoe and Big Bird Big Bird is the main protagonist of the children's television show Sesame Street which airs on PBS. Big Bird, like many of the other Sesame Street characters, is a Muppet character. He is sometimes referred to simply as "Bird" by his friends. In that episode, Elmo receives a medical checkup from Abbey Bartlet, the First Lady First Lady or First Gentleman is the unofficial title used in some countries for the spouse of an elected head of state. In the United States, it is also used for the spouse or partner of a governor or mayor (who is making a guest appearance on Sesame Street), and cheekily questions her about the validity of her medical license.

A regional James Beard Award winner, he is perhaps most notable for his Food Network shows Emeril Live and Essence of Emeril as well as catchphrases such as “Kick it up a notch!” and “BAM!” He is a 1978 graduate of Johnson & that aired on November 4, 2005 at 8 p.m. as part of the Food Network's Food Network is a television specialty channel that airs both one-time and recurring programs about food and cooking. Scripps Networks Interactive owns roughly two thirds of the network, and Tribune Company owns the rest second annual "Cook With Your Kids Week". The special was produced in conjunction with Sesame Workshop's Healthy Habits for Life program.
Criticism and controversy
Some longtime fans of the series, particularly those who had begun watching it prior to Elmo's introduction, resent both him and his now-prominent status, which has caused some older characters (such as Oscar the Grouch, Big Bird Big Bird is the main protagonist of the children's television show Sesame Street which airs on PBS. Big Bird, like many of the other Sesame Street characters, is a Muppet character. He is sometimes referred to simply as "Bird" by his friends, The Count, Prairie Dawn Prairie Dawn is a fictional character, a rather mature seven-year-old Muppet girl on the beloved children's television program Sesame Street. She is similar in appearance to a character from the Anything Muppets. She is famous for writing school pageants for her friends, mostly Ernie and Bert, Herry, Grover, and Cookie Monster. She also plays the, Grover Grover is a Muppet character on the popular television show Sesame Street. Self-described as lovable and furry, he is a monster who almost never uses contractions when he speaks and sings, and Cookie Monster Cookie Monster is a fictional Muppet character on the children's television show Sesame Street. He is best known for his voracious appetite and his famous eating phrases: "Me want cookie!", "Me eat cookie!", and "Om Nom nom nom" . He often eats anything and everything, including danishes, donuts, lettuce, apples,) to see greatly-reduced roles.[6] Elmo has been referred to as the "Little Red Menace" by Sesame Street traditionalists.[7]
Some people believe that Elmo's characteristic of referring to himself and others in the third person will teach children improper English. In its FAQ Frequently asked questions, or FAQs are listed questions and answers, all supposed to be frequently asked in some context, and pertaining to a particular topic. Since the acronym FAQ originated in textual media, its pronunciation varies; "fack," "fax," "facts," and "F.A.Q." are commonly heard. Depending on, the Sesame Workshop responds to this accusation, stating that this behavior "mimics the behavior of many preschoolers."[8] However, Abby and Zoe, who are also in the same age group as Elmo, do not speak in the third person.
